Are you ready to open yourself up to the planetary energies and to let them guide you towards your highest potential?

If so, I will support you in actively engaging with the Pisces new moon on March 2nd, 2022. Each new moon signals a new surge of energy entering our life, this could be in the form of a person, a developing situation or an idea. Through understanding the dominant themes at play at the new moon, and employing meditative and reflective journaling techniques, we can begin to connect with this energy. In doing so we can begin to better align our mindsets towards psychological growth and spiritual wellbeing.

Pisces New Moon, March 2022 – what this energy stimulates in our psyche.

As we edge into Spring make way for this humanitarian new moon brings expansion and fresh opportunities our way. Limitations will begin to ease as fresh possibilities present themselves and life feels like it is ‘flowing’ once again. Remain open and receptive, and listen closely to your intuition. If you’re not currently on the right track expect alterations to your plans. Trust that these changes are happening for a reason and are leading you towards a more gratifying outcome. This new moon is benevolent and growth-orientated by nature, it’s on our side, urging us to make progress.

Also coming to the fore is the notion of spiritual expansion and relationship development. You may find yourself considering your actions in relation to how they serve your personal development, and those around you. You’re better able to gauge situations and understand them from different perspectives at this time. Welcome this opportunity for honest reflection and tune in to your conscience. If we’re able to realign our actions going forward with a better version of ourselves then our future is bright!

This Pisces new moon also highlights creative inspiration, experimentation and flow-states. With Uranus providing a beautiful sextile expect innovative ideas that may change the course of your life, projects or thinking. Pisces teaches us the danger of trying to overly control situations. Instead focus on learning to adapt to situations as they unfold and not to fixate on outcome of solutions. As any artist know, this mindset is the key to creative expression.

Jupiter in Pisces – What History Teaches Us!

Jupiter rules over philosophy, politics and the justice system, whilst Pisces relates to the arts, a sense of community, spiritual and creative practices. With this aspect we see people seeking to expand knowledge by delving into subjects such as spirituality and metaphysics in an effort to find universal truths (that unite us all.) We also see people taking principled stands as they abide by their conscience and their own inner sense of justice. Yes, this is the energy of the martyr and ‘the greater good’, though of course that term is highly subjective.

Let’s have a look at what happened when Jupiter travelled through Pisces in the early 1960s. In the west this took place amid the backdrop of the Vietnam War, Cold War and the Civil Rights Movement. (The conjoining of Pluto and Uranus reflects the archetypal nature of the threat and upheaval felt during this time.) Both Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandala were imprisoned for taking principled stands on issues pertaining to liberty and justice. We also saw a surge in people partaking in anti-war protests, action in the name of peace and unification. Music, poetry and art were also used as creative outlets for political commentary. People tend to feel very inspired under this influence, they feel deeply and speak from a viewpoint of moral conviction. Expect to feel these themes manifest in an area of your life under this new moon.

Pisces New Moon Warnings for March 2022

With the full moon in Virgo on March 18th, 2022. We must take these themes and principles and work towards a practical application. We must work to ground our ideas and spiritual practices in the physical reality in which we find ourselves. Be mindful of making judgements before knowing all of the facts, or conceiving of ideas that won’t work in reality. Remember, beliefs will always differ and moral standpoints can lead to further conflict when our ego claims the upper hand. Pisces helps us to separate our sense of self from the ego. This enables us to connect with others in a deep and authentic way regardless of our differences.

Pisces New Moon Journaling Exercise for March 2022

Technique: Free Writing or Art Journal

Consider: if I were to tell you that your thoughts were the key to manifesting whatever it was that you want in life, how would you alter your mindset to bring about a better future?

Task: Imagine yourself as nothing but a manifestation of your thoughts and feelings. You have no job, you have no hobbies – all of these external identity factors are striped away from you for the purpose of this exercise. Describe yourself through drawing or free writing (don’t overthink just writing or draw as characteristics come to mind)

An example to get you started:

So, the handsome and charming salesman whom everybody thinks is the bees-knees is not the most appealing character when these external factors are striped away. He is motivated by greed and his aims in life are largely superficial. His ambition is strong and over dominates his morality, he will manipulate and swindle customers into buying products that they don’t need because it leads to greater financial gain for himself. Even in romance he chooses partners based on what he will gain from the union and how good they will look on his arm. He therefore builds few meaningful connections. However, when it comes to animals he is an absolute softy, he can’t abide by animal cruelty and travels to foreign countries to work voluntarily in sanctuaries dedicated to protecting and rehabilitating wildlife.

It is evident that to bring about a more fulfilling career and romantic life the salesman must learn navigate these facets of his life towards a higher calling. It is evident from his charity work and his fondness for animals that he is capable of much love and compassion.

Find a moment where you can be quiet and present. Focus on calming your nervous system. Release any tension in your muscles, and let your thoughts come and go as you slow your breathing. Consider the many people in this world, their different backgrounds, beliefs and loyalties, and repeat the following mantra:

What unites us is greater than what divides us

X Wheel of Fortune

Sometimes we’re up, sometimes we’re down. When I see this card it reminds me to trust in the cycle and accept that things don’t stay the same for very long. With any Pisces new moon there’s a sense of surrender, that to grow we must first let go of control and be prepared to adapt to situations as they unfold.

I sense that the wheel is indeed turning for the better on a personal and global level with Jupiter and Uranus prevalent in this lunar configuration. Growth opportunities are presenting themselves but if we’re too fixated on how things ‘should be’, or how we ‘want them to be’ then we may miss them.

Pluto Trine North Node Transit and Natal Aspect

Are you ready to open yourself up to the planetary energies for the day and to let them guide you towards your highest potential?

If so, I will support you in actively engaging with the energy of Pluto trine North Node, whether you have this configuration in your birth chart or are experiencing it by transit. Through employing meditative and reflective journaling techniques we can begin to connect with this energy and use it to align our mindsets towards psychological growth and spiritual wellbeing.

Pluto trine North Node – what this energy stimulates in our psyche.

The engines of change are revving up my friends. Pluto, representative of our deepest desires and capacity for personal transformation is forming a harmonious aspect to the North Node in Taurus. Whenever the north node is involved in a configuration we can be sure that the energies are on our side and will support us in moving towards a future self that, in the case of this Pluto trine, is more resilient, self-aware and in control of one self and one’s life path.

If you’ve been tussling with moving in a new direction or considering making some significant changes then this aspect can signify a significant breakthrough. It’s not unusual for the matter in question to have caused a certain amount of trepidation or even fear but this aspect infuses us with the strength, confidence and stamina to think “You know what, I can do this!” A beautiful Pluto trine to the North Node helps us to move towards new chapters without hesitation. If you’ve experienced difficulties until now then that was but part of a necessary adaption process, like anything sometimes we need to ‘train’ and whilst Pluto is a hard master, you can be sure if he will get you into the best shape of your life!

Pluto represents our unconscious and so this aspect often manifests in very subtle ways. Psychological breakthroughs, such as change in mindset, have the power to set us on a different life course.

Pluto trine North Node Journaling Exercise

Technique: Plan Your Week Journaling

Consider: What changes have you been considering making in your life and what steps could you make this week to move towards achieving them? (Pluto – North Node loves a strategy!)

Task: Start by writing down the positive changes that you would like to see happen in your life. Be clear and concise with your wording. These might not be achievable in a week, or even a month, but don’t worry. Now, write down three steps that you could take this week that would help you to move towards your desired outcome. If you can make two steps easily achievable, but the final one should stretch you slightly out of your comfort zone. Pluto makes us braver – you can do it! Remember the aim here is to finish off the week knowing that you’ve made progress!

An example to get you started:

I set so many good intentions in the new year, including setting up a little side venture alongside my day-job, but I lost my momentum come the end of the month. I’m still thinking about it a lot so I know it’s something that I really do want to do, but there’s just so much that needs doing it’s overwhelming!

I want to get this design venture off the ground by the summer so this week I am going to:

  • Sit down for one hour and go over what I’ve done so far to get myself back in the right headspace.
  • I am going to going to set up an Etsy account and attempt to list my first item
  • I don’t like talking on the phone but I am going to call the web designed to see if they could help me get a website set up.

Find a moment where you can be quiet and present. Focus on calming your nervous system. Release any tension in your muscles, and let your thoughts come and go as you slow your breathing. Consider the area of your life where you would most like to see progress and repeat the following mantra:

I will no longer be the person that stands in my way.

XIII Death

Not joking, this is genuinely the card I overturned – The Death card is ruled by Pluto and reinforces today’s themes of rebirth, transition and new chapters.

The Death card speaks of situations beyond our control that enter our life and change our course. As humans we naturally form very strong attachments and like life to be somewhat predictable, this is why we often view this card with a degree of apprehension. The Death card represents impermanence, it teaches us that change is part of the natural order and again asks us to trust in process. It reminds us that we must be prepared to let go of elements of our life that have run their course and be willing to release parts of ourselves that no longer serve our future orientation. Do you see the King pleading for mercy? This indicates that none of us, no matter how powerful, are exempt from this truth.

With a beautiful Pluto trine to the North Node you are moving into new chapters without hesitation. Obstacles are easily overcome and major breakthroughs are possible. Note the sun rising through the columns, it’s the new dawn that follows all upheaval and today you are taking giant, confident strides towards it.

Mars Square Chiron Transit and Natal Aspect

The Wounded Warrior

Are you ready to open yourself up to this planetary energy and let them guide you towards your highest potential?

If so, I will support you in actively engaging with the energy of Mars square Chiron, whether you have this configuration in your birth chart or are experiencing it by transit. Through employing meditative and reflective journaling techniques we can begin to connect with this energy and use it to align our mindsets towards psychological growth and spiritual wellbeing.

Mars square Chiron – what this energy stimulates in our psyche.

Birth Chart

When Mars is square Chiron, the Wounded Healer is in a state of tension with the God of War. As such it raises issues around one’s ability to assert themselves and go after what they want in life. People with this aspect natally often struggle with self-confidence and prefer to keep a very low profile rather than risk discomfort or failure. There’s a feeling of ‘life happening to them’ rather then them taking charge of their destiny. A victim mentality is at risk of developing if one doesn’t learn to express their assertive energy positively. The challenge with Mars square Chiron in the birth chart lies in learning to act in your own best interests, even if it risks a degree of confrontation. Believe in yourself and understand that you want and what you have to say is both valid and valuable.

Mars square Chiron Transits

Mars square Chiron experienced by transit primes us to work through insecurities and fears that have been holding us back in our life. The location of Chiron in our charts indicates where we are prone to feelings of hesitation, doubt and anxiety. These can paralyses us and blocks our progress if we don’t work through them. Consider where in your life you feel ineffective or unfulfilled, or where you’re not able to express your desires openly, this is where you need to focus at this time. This dynamic transit will help us to find resolutions to our internal struggles and turn vulnerabilities into strengths. We all have an Achilles Heel that needs addressing and now is a good time to begin working with yours.

Mars square Chiron also speaks of pain and tension that we hold in our physical bodies. Yogic practice, dynamic stretching or massage are a wonderful wat of using movement as a form of release and relaxation.

Mars square Chiron Journaling Exercise

Technique: Reflection Journaling

Consider: In what area of life you experience the greatest feelings of insecurity and how do they manifest?

Task: Reflect on your internal dialogue, some of the phrases that flicker through your mind, even if it’s only momentary or sounds absolutely mad – be honest. Now, go deeper. Read the phrase again and consider how this mindset affects you and your decision making. Perhaps there’s a sub-narrative here.

An example to get you started:

I feel the greatest levels of insecurity in romantic relationships, I recently found myself thinking “If I lose weight and take up cycling then he will fancy me”

On reflection this thought process was reaffirming the idea that I need to be something or somebody else in order to be loved. It’s telling me that I am unlovable as I am and that I need to be more. I can see how my self-worth is tied up with receiving approval from others.

Find a moment where you can be quiet and present. Focus on calming your nervous system. Release any tension in your muscles, and let your thoughts come and go as you slow your breathing. Consider the area of your life where you feel vulnerable and insecure and repeat the following mantra:

I am stronger than I think. I am braver than I think. I am ready to begin moving past my insecurities.

VII The Chariot

I wasn’t the least bit surprised when I overturned this card for Mars Square Chiron. To me this speaks of all that can be achieved by working through our fears and insecurities and learning to assert ourselves in a healthy and compassionate manner.

The Emperor in this card is being pulled along by two sphinxes, but notice that he holds no reigns. He is directing the chariot purely through the concentrated power of his will. To me this speaks of a healthy, unafflicted Mars that has so much drive, ambition and passion that it wills it’s way to victory. A Mars in difficult aspect to Chiron is weakened, it’s doubtful and doesn’t have the confidence or conviction to really put it’s stamp on the world.

This card is asking us to step up and master ourselves. It speaks of all the successes that will come our way if we’re able to work through our fears and align our energies wholeheartedly towards our goals. There is the potential for great progress today.

Jupiter in Pisces 2022 – The Spiritual Classroom

When Jupiter transits Pisces we step into the spiritual classroom and are asked politely to leave our ego at the door. Don’t expect to walk out of this one the same person as you went in. Jupiter will remain in Pisces throughout 2022 and we’ll all be presented with opportunities for growth on the highest level.

If we accept that we don’t know everything and remain open to learning, then this can be quite the adventure! This isn’t about keeping our feet planted firmly on the ground, this is about testing our beliefs and philosophies. In many ways it’s an opportunity to turn our worlds upside down to see what can withstand the flux. This combination is associated with altered mental states and creative flow. It encourages us to be adaptable, to let in new ideas and be open to new possibilities of being.

Stick around to the end and I’ll give you 10 examples of how this might manifest in your life.

Enter the Spiritual Classroom.

When Jupiter is in Pisces events occur in our life that prompt a shift in perspective. We will be confronted by learning opportunities and encouraged to adopt a more spiritual, less materialistic, lifestyle. These learning opportunities differ in how they manifest for each of us depending on how much of a wake-up call we need to get us on the right path.

As mutable signs/planets they bring the notion of connectivity and interrelation to the fore. Phrases like “It’s not my problem” no longer wash! Through considering our small role in contribution to the larger whole – humanity, we can begin to work towards greater ends.

“What you mean I’m not the centre of the world?”

True, this can hit our ego pretty hard and Jupiter in Pisces can be humbling to say they least. However, by acknowledging this connection we also accept our ability to affect the bigger picture. This can be pretty empowering too! When Jupiter is in Pisces we acknowledge the impact of our actions, and the affect that they have on others. In this sense we become aware of our capacity to sow love and hate, positivity or negativity – Jupiter in particular asks us to be discerning and make good choices.

Meet your Spiritual Judge

Don’t forget Jupiter rules over the justice system for a reason, when Jupiter is in Pisces we meet our spiritual judge, aka our conscience or moral compass. Not daunting at all! Our soul pays the price for our actions, what we do in the outer world impacts directly on our inner world. Remember the story of Dorian Gray?

This also plays out on the larger stays and as governments, education and justice systems and considered in terms of their service to humanity.

10 Examples of how this transit could manifest for you:

  1. When confronted with another’s suffering you consider how you might ease it through selfless action.
  2. Through meeting a person whose philosophies differ considerably from your own, they open your eyes to different possibilities.
  3. You have a great job, lovely home and want for nothing – but life feels empty. You begin searching within for an answer.
  4. In commencing a new art project, you lose track of time as you explore creative ideas and experiment with new techniques.
  5. Through meditation you experience an altered mental state, reality is not what it seems.
  6. Perhaps you fall in love or have a child and suddenly find yourself wanting more than anything to make another happy, putting them before yourself.
  7. You don’t want to accept a situation, it can’t be true! Acceptance and letting go of control can sometimes be the best option. Learn to surrender to the lessons that come your way.
  8. You did something and now you feel awful about it. Listen to your conscience and let it inform how you act in the future.
  9. In acknowledging that you have free time you decide to volunteer for a local charity. Every little bit helps!
  10. You begin to question whether the powers that be are really serving the people, and where society itself still has room to grow.

The houses ruled by Pisces and Sagittarius will give a large indication of how this will manifest in your life, but at least now you know what themes to look out for!

Mars Conjunct Uranus – A Bolt from the Blue

Mars conjunct Uranus becomes exact on Wednesday 20th January 2021. Whilst Uranus is associated with the crown chakra and the intellect, Mars is associated with our root chakra, and the more primal aspect of our natures. In many ways these energies really do exist at two very different ends of the spectrum and neither is better nor worse than the other.

Striking a balance

If we swing too far towards cerebral Uranus we may become aloof, disconnected, and somewhat neurotic. Though, if we swing too far towards the fire of Mars we may become too reactive fueled entirely by our instincts. Nobody exists entirely at one end or the other, nobody’s birth chart is that simple. It is our mission to unite the two and live from our heart chakra, balancing the two energies within ourselves.

Mars conjunct Uranus

I want you to Imagine this transit as bolt of lightning, it’s sudden, sharp and bright. I really like this analogy because it describes a shock, an unforeseen event. Though through the generation of light it also implies knowledge and truth. This transit it a sudden realisation, an awakening or epiphany. It can both beautiful and destructive.

Also, the way it manifests in people’s lives can differ tremendously. It can be a creative breakthrough or it could be a walking in on your partner having an affair. It’s hard to imagine how one transit could differ so widely! By its nature it is extreme, but in both instances the archetypal symbolism is the same.

Two sides of the same coin

Ok, let me explain what i mean by that. Say you’re an artist and you’ve been pushing and pushing, trying to get your ideas to come together but at each and every attempt you were just come up against a brick wall. Something isn’t quite right, a piece of the puzzle is missing, there is something you just aren’t seeing. and then ‘Ta-da!’, under this transit it all becomes clear. As if from nowhere you just get it, a bolt from the blue. You know exactly what you have to do and you’re excited, you can barely sit down and are eager to get to work.

This transit really does lend itself to breakthroughs and innovation, it’s brilliant for anyone wanting to progress projects. Though be prepared to let ideas go if at their core they’re not the right ones. Mars conjunct Uranus is like a damn sniffer dog, it can smell weakness a mile off and is prepared to knock the towers of cards down over and over again until you finally realise that it’s a better idea to build one out of bricks.

Mars conjunct Uranus lightning and fire

Anyway on that note lets look at the affair. Perhaps there’s been issues for a while but neither party has wanted to address them. The foundations are wobbly but it’s been easier to pretend that everything’s just fine. Evolutionary wise this isn’t helping either person, both are existing in a state of deception. Then this transit comes and ‘Ta-da!’, it’s ‘Wake up, this isn’t working!’ This is a revelation of a different kind, but again is a bolt from the blue to get you back on track.

Like the artist the couple are fired up and can barely sit down, though this is more anxiety than excitement.  Can you see how in both instances all the body experiences is adrenaline, the physical response is not so different. This aspect is also largely associated with risk, many people may seem braver at this time and willing to take a chance in life.

jump risk

Potential of humankind

Mars is a spring of energy. It’s raw human potential, and this aspect is encouraging us to raise this energy and manifest it consciously. This can be done through projects, sports, meaningful sexual relations and creativity. However, if you’ve been blocking this channel, repressing emotions or urges then this transit will pull the plug. Holding down anger or resentment? Then circumstances may well provoke a sudden and disruptive release. Be mindful of flash tempers at this time, and try not to lash out either physically or verbally. You see there’s a strong chance that people may do something that they will later regret because the nature of this transit is explosive and does not care for moderation .’

I want to make one thing crystal clear…

I want to make one thing crystal clear, Mars conjunct Uranus isn’t purposeless or malicious, however it manifests in your life it does so with meaning. A lot of things that get us to where we need to go and that help us to become the best that we can be, hurt a little bit. If events at this time make you feel uncomfortable perhaps it’s because you’re not where you’re meant to be. It might be time for you to move on, or move forward, in some aspect of your life.

If this is turning out to be a difficult transit for you ask yourself this: Would you rather the discomfort be dragged out over months or would you rather condense it and just get it out of the way with? Either way the purpose is to get you to a better place, this is just the fast train!

Mars Transits Taurus – Disciple of Discipline

Welcome! Join us for a conversation around the current transit of Mars through the sign of Taurus.

Is this really the energy of the bull in the china shop?

Don’t worry, we’ll touch upon what this means for you as well as some of the key things that you need to be aware of so that you don’t send the china crashing! Now let’s get started, first question…

What does Mars in Taurus mean on a really basic level?

Mars’ transit through Taurus has some incredible lessons to teach us. It helps us learn how to temper our passions. We begin to realise that hot headedness and overtly emotional reactions don’t always get us what we want, or to where we want to go. Instead we begin to view our energy as a limited resource and we become more conscious of where we channel our energy in light of what is most likely to deliver real results.

Mars in Taurus control your primal self.

You see, It’s concerned with the practical application of personal energy/power. It helps us to learn the benefits of self discipline and self-directed action. At its core our natures are wild and powerful, an incredible resource of personal energy and creativity. With Mars in Taurus we try to put reigns on our will and direct our potential in a meaningful way. This combination always makes me think of the Chariot in the Tarot deck.

I get the feeling that if used positively a lot can be achieved during this time?

Absolutely! This combination manifests the drive within us to be our own masters. It tells that if we take responsibility for ourselves and our actions then we can gain results that aren’t arbitrary (let’s see where the cards fall) but of real value not just to us but our friends, family and society.

But, what if I’m pretty laid back and this all sound like a lot of hard work?

Haha! This is exactly why we have transits. Transit allow us to experience energies that may not be easily expressed through the natal chart. So at this time, dependent on where it falls in your chart, you will have an increased appreciation of discipline and hard work. You may see something that you really want and Mars’ transit through Taurus says ‘Yes! You can have this thing you’re dreaming of but you have to be willing to put in the time and effort.’ Mars through Aries birthed much inspiration, now in Taurus it asks you to make a commitment, to accept delayed gratification and begin moving towards our long term goals. If you want it enough, then being laid-back won’t get in your way.

Mars in Taurus - Start working towards long term goals

Ok, so honestly now, what are the drawbacks likely to be?

What you need to understand about Taurus is that it’s so grounded, with individuals it’s as if roots run through their feet tethering them to the earth itself! It takes a lot to rattle or unnerve a Taurus. They are steadfast yet stubborn, whilst being both loyal and dedicated. So on one hand we’re encouraged to take our time and be patient with Mars in this sign, but this approach doesn’t always sit well with the impatient and impulsive nature of Mars. In many ways they contradict each other. As such, friction can result. Our lust for life and creative flow can feel stifled at times, whilst we may struggle with feeling rushed, flustered and slightly out of control at others.

Sounds a lot more nuanced than Mars’ transit through Aries

Yeah, I think it’s fair to say that’s true. Mars, God of War, in Taurus manifests itself in a different manner than when it transited Aries. Activism and unbridled passion give way to a more strategic approach. Mars in Taurus is territorial and incredibly defensive and will respond physically if threatened. Also, with Taurus being the second sign of the zodiac it gives ground to ‘the other’. So we have to be mindful that at it’s lower polarity this combination can breed an ‘us’ and ‘them’ mentality, which may lead to tribalism and conflict.

Taurus can be rather tribal and concerned with ownership of territory

Sounds concerning, anything else that we should be mindful of?

Taurus in Mars is more than able to play the long game, and is resolute in pursuit of long term goals. You see, at this time we are capable of overcoming many obstacles through the force of our own will but when we begin thinking in terms of ‘the ends justifying the means’ it’s easy to see how this combination can be viewed as inconsiderate, if not ruthless in more extreme cases.

One other thing I will say is that Mars in Taurus is capable of withstanding pressure like no other combination. Under this energy people’s natural disposition is to cling devoutly to their principles, beliefs and even possessions. They are like a rock that will not be moved and are capable of weathering incredible opposition.

Taurus can be stubborn

I see where you’re going with this. What if people are clinging to flawed principles, or are clinging to the material at the expense of the spiritual?

Yep you got it, this will undoubtedly lead to impaired growth and actions based on flawed logic. People may become obstinate, unwilling to take advice and break ties with anybody who differs in their approach. If this spirals out of control it can lead to people being overtly controlling, if not out-right tyrannical.

What should we see this tendency in others or feel it arising in ourselves?

Take responsibility. Conflict resolution if difficult under this energy there’s no denying that, but we must all try our best to encourage dialogue and to be considerate towards other people’s perspectives. Seek the nuance in situations and steer clear of absolutist judgements against others.

And to finish on a positive?

I’d say that whatever it is that you want to achieve, this energy really can help you make major strides in that direction. You know it’s not all serious either, just play, put your ideas to the test. If they don’t take root or stand the test then learn from it and move on. What doesn’t break us makes us stronger right? I really think the realisation that we have mastery over ourselves is huge and the potential underlying this realisation is incredibly empowering.

And to anybody who want to learn more?

I think the key to understanding how Mars’ transit through Taurus is likely to function is to read generally around the two archetypal energies at play. I cover them in the following two articles:

Growth often isn’t always easy, but one thing’s for sure, it is always necessary. Whether you embrace the opportunity to work hard to improve yourself or whether you wriggle in discomfort as life nudges you out of your comfort zone, my 10 top tips will help you to make the most of The Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn on December 21st.

1. Don’t sell yourself short

This transit is all about recognising limitations and finding the will to overcome them. When Jupiter meets Saturn we realise that time is short, all of a sudden our excuses don’t fly anymore and through a sense of our own suppressed potential we begin to muster the courage to take action! It’s common to feel a level of frustration under this influence and a sense of not being sufficiently recognised or appreciated. These unfavorable sensations inspire us to bring about necessary and often overdue change, in doing so we pave the way towards attaining greater levels of freedom and success.

2. Be willing to work for what you want

Willpower will be strong under this conjunction but this energy isn’t reckless, (Jupiter is ruled by Sagittarius after all, which in turn rules over the higher mind) so this transit is about consciously directing the will and reigning in the urge towards impulsiveness. When used constructively alongside the Saturn energy we see growth through productivity, the physical realisation of ideas and the enthusiastic execution of best-laid plans.

3. Lay claim to the new you

It could be time to close the book on the old you. Under this conjunction we are encouraged to take our rightful place, just as Zeus (Jupiter) overthrew his father Kronos (Saturn) and claimed the throne on Mount Olympus. This signifies a significant turning point that demands a shift in power or status, it can often feel like destiny is intervening. For example, a promotion might demand you take on greater responsibility in work, a marriage or birth might bring about a change in status or even the sad death of loved one could cause you stand as the new head of the household.

4. Listen out for your calling

When these planets come together they produce a sense of ‘fated events’ or of ‘getting our just deserts’. It is not unusual for people to find their calling under this influence, to be confronted with something that is both inspirational and which one is prepared to work hard for. At this time we reap the benefits of the work we’ve put in over recent years and set goals for the future. The karmic cycle continues to turn as we feel propelled forward on our path.

5. Wait for the opportune moment

Jupiter conjunct Saturn is all about waiting for the opportune moment to make your move. When the planet of luck and the planet ruling over time come together in Aquarius we’re encouraged to gain a greater perspective and use our sharp intellect in order to achieve our goals. Just as a bird of prey tracks a rodent from a height, so must you watch and wait for the perfect moment to strike.

6. Break out of your comfort zone

Don’t be surprised if the limitations you place on yourself, and that others place upon you, begin to chaff. As the son took the place of the father so must you dethrone the old you and lay claim to the you that you want to be. Be ready to seize the opportunity to move forward and fulfil your potential. Events may arise whereby your skills and abilities are put to the test and you are encouraged to stretch forward out of your comfort zone. It’s at these times that we surprise ourselves and realise that we’re capable of achieving so much more than we thought.

7. Don’t be afraid of conflict

Conflicts of egos and challenges to authority are common under this conjunction. There is a sense of no longer being at ease with your current situation, like young stags people may well feel an eagerness to put their abilities to the test and to stake their skills against others’. This urge to develop ourselves makes us more likely to enter into conflict if we consider it as a necessary means to overcoming limitations and inducing growth. If somebody says ‘you can’t do that,’ then the Saturn/Jupiter retort is ‘wanna bet’.

8. Avoid setting yourself up for a fall

Our sense of self and our faith in our own abilities often need a boost but Jupiter can inflate matters so much and we may aim so high that we are ultimately setting ourselves up for a fall. Many of us are capable of much more than we think but Saturn can inject a healthy realism. After all, we’re unlikely to enter a medical examination with no prior knowledge and achieve top marks. This transit isn’t about purely wishful thinking or blind faith. It’s about bringing our dreams down to earth and honing them so that we can make them a reality. This is not about a quick fix, this is being willing to put in the work, gruelling hours if necessary, in order to reach your goals.

9. Stop trying to control everything

If throughout the last cycle you have exercised excessive levels of control in your life and over others, you may well feel a sense of impending disaster. This is why this transit can invoke feelings of paranoia and fear. If you have not treated others with respect and kindness then you may begin to feel the first drips of push-back arising. This is felt when people are trying to sustain a way of being that is restricting their growth and that of others. In stories we see this scenario portrayed as the tyrant who is inevitably overthrown by those he has been oppressing. Jupiter and Saturn lend a karmic tone to events and proceedings are considered in terms of being just or unjust.

10. Be brave

Of course many of us may hear the call of Jupiter/Saturn but not all of us will have the courage to pursue it. In this case I encourage you to take small steps towards your larger goals, something manageable and less daunting. If we forever ignore the call to outgrow our limitations not only do we stagnate but our outlook can become bitter and we can even come to begrudge other people’s joy and progress

Remember, we grow through discomfort, struggle often precedes success and responsibility can be synonymous with joy. Work with this transit and trust you’ll be moving towards greater heights.

Mars transit into Aries 2020 Individualism and Action!

Goodbye Pisces, Hello Aries.

Mars enters Aries on 29th June 2020, and will remain in its home sign until 7th January 2021. This 6 month period includes 2 months in which Mars is retrograde, beginning 10th September and stationing direct on 14th November.

In this article I discuss how and why this cyclical shift in energy brings focus away from collectivism back towards individual responsibility and personal freedoms. From an evolutionary perspective this dynamic is not only necessary but imperative to progress. I trace Mars’ journey from July all the way to January 2021, explaining why I don’t think the transition will be abrupt and for what reasons I suspect an increase in tension that builds towards a climatic period in mid August.

Understanding transits across the Aries point.

An independent Aries man

When we see any planet enter Aries, we see it cross the Aries point. This marks the start of the astrological wheel and signifies both a culmination and the start of a new cycle.

Mars in its own sign brings our life purpose and direction into focus. It will raise questions such as ‘What do I want and how am I going to go about manifesting it?’ It will bring with it an individualistic streak, something that has been absent during its transit through collectivist Pisces. Instead Mars in Aries encourages us to take a step back from others, to focus solely on our own needs and what we personally need to develop. In fact you may find yourself acting against the desires and expectations of others, but just remember that those that care for us will support us in our growth. We are on our own journey and at times that requires freedom and autonomy.

With Mars’ transit through Pisces we were inclined to channel our energy into things that we saw as being for the collective benefit. Our will was directed towards broader ideals that could only be achieved through collective effort. In turn this brought with it recognition of our personal limitations, there’s only so much we can achieve on our own after all. However, this humbling influence opened us up to how we could be better, or be more than we currently are.

So, when Mars enters Aries we come from a place of being acutely aware of our own shortcomings. Many of us may even feel vulnerable during this transition as we feel compelled to travel into new territory alone. This is why Mars in Aries fills the individual with courage – not because it feels good but because we need it. We are inspired to move forwards towards a version of ourselves that is stronger, more assertive and able to stand ones ground under pressure.

As Mars crosses the Aries point we understand that individualism needn’t be considered selfish. Instead, if we all work on being the best versions of ourselves imagine what we can achieve when we next come together?

How to make the best of this transition

  • A shift of focus from serving others to now addressing your own personal needs. Consider this a new chapter in your maturation.
  • Separation from erroneous ideas and people that prove to be detrimental to your evolutionary progress. An assertive step towards truth.
  • An opportunity to reinvent yourself. Mars in Aries prompts questions such as ‘Who am I?’ and ‘What do I want to achieve in this life?’ Answers will be forthcoming during this period.
  • A wonderful time for creative endeavours, for they are in essence creations born from the self. Move forwards with your projects, you will find yourself working with heightened enthusiasm and even an entrepreneurial flair.

Your guide to what to expect from Mars’ 6 month transit through Aries

The significance of Mars moving into Aries whilst remaining under the influence of the recent solar eclipse in Cancer

The energy of the recent new moon / solar eclipse in Cancer also encouraged us to pay greater attention to the self so that we may truly learn to think and act in accordance with our authentic nature. However, whilst the Cancer energy encourages us to pull back and assess, Mars in Aries can be forthright and impulsive. Not interested in introspection Aries-Mars charges forward with courage and single-minded conviction, for better or worse.

This conflicting message is why we must be cautious of premature action throughout this cycle. There will be an inclination to throw strategy of any kind to the wind. It’s important that we learn to walk before we can run and to know where it is that we want to go before we set out. There is a risk that people will experience rude awakenings during this time because assertive action may well run counter to their personal needs and universal truths.

Throughout the first half of July influences will largely support us to strike a balance between self assertive action and relational harmony

Aries the lover - two people kissing

As discussed when Mars crosses the Aries point we see a shift in focus from the self as a member of the collective and the self in service to higher ideals – to the autonomous self who values personal freedom, the right to think, speak and act as an individual in line with what is right for them.

Let’s be honest, both of these approaches have their value, but neither are constructive if manifested to the overt detriment of the other. This is why the natural counter influence to Aries is through the diplomatic sign of Libra. Libra marks the mid-point between the two energies and encourages us temper both extremes and to find the optimal route between the two so that we can maintain sovereignty and act selflessly towards a collective benefit.

As Mars enters Aries and through the first half of July we see a lovely sextile from Mars to Venus (ruler of Libra) in Gemini. This will greatly ease the transition of Mars from Pisces into it’s home sign, it curbs what could otherwise manifest as impulsivity and untempered aggression, and aids in conflict resolution. Here we see Aries the lover, passion and sensuality will be high.

From mid-July we can expect to feel the rising of tension as instinctive drives take over and conflict ensues.

A man standing amid an erupting volcano. Aries and war.

As Mars sextile Venus moves out of orb, we will become acutely aware of the slow building of discourse simmering beneath the surface as Mars moves towards it’s square with Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn. We can consider the middle two weeks of August as the climatic period of Mars’ transit through Aries, with Mars squaring Pluto exactly on the 15th August. Make way for Mars the warrior and activist, but will his war efforts be a martial dance or a mindless brawl?

In light of the eclipse and the predominance of planets in retrograde I understand Mars square Pluto (retrograde) to be a time to focus on ones own inner development. Outwards expression of this energy should be considered premature. However, we will see people projecting the very traits in themselves that they are being encouraged to confront, but evidently find it too painful to do so. This will be evident through aggressive behaviour and emotional outbursts.

Essentially, Mars in Aries square Pluto signifies sudden tension brought to that which is blocking our personal development such as repressed emotions or untruths. Such matters will surge to the surface with considerable force. These things will be neither gentle nor easy to look at, they come straight from the core of our shadow self and will shake our foundations if we have not based our character and actions on sound principles.

However, in this instance there is a distinction to be made between those who value growth and those who do not. The former will experience this as a sudden but enlightening experience, where the way is now made clear for them to move forwards. The later, as alluded to above, will find this particularly challenging and psychologically disturbing. In both instances this transit serves to encourage people to face their demons and to get themselves back on track so to speak.

Such sharp wake-up calls come about when we fail to accept previous opportunities to address matters. It’s as if the universe has no other way than to force us to wake up.

From mid-August we will undoubtedly be glad to see the raising of the Aries-Mars energy to it’s higher manifestion

We will see a change in this dynamic from around 19th August, when the Leo new moon conjunct mercury makes a beautiful trine to Mars. This will work to temper the Aries energy by bringing an added layer of meaning to autonomous action, and rationale to the impulsivity. Through reflection and critique people will find themselves able to temper their drives and direct their energy towards that which truly benefits their development and relations.

I will be writing an article on the Mars square Pluto transit and the new moon on August 19th that will help set the scene. I will keep you updated via social media and through my newsletter.

Mars retrograde throughout most of September and October

Mars turns retrograde on 10th September and stations direct on 14th November, having once again reached 15′ Aries. This is a great time to take your foot off this pedal a little, conserve your energy. As the astrological giants; Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto station direct we’re going to see some action throughout November and December, but not yet. Use this time to reflect on your triggers so that you can better utilise that fighting spirit, and try to conceptualise what you want from your future so that you can move forward with confidence when it’s time

I will be covering the nature of the upheaval that I expect to see in November and December in a separate article. Mars does not contact any of these planets directly until the end of December (addressed below). However, its position will lend a forthright approach to matters, and there will be a sense of individuals being directly involved and personally effected by the events that unfold.

Christmas – Au revoir

Mars squares Pluto for the last time from 23′ Aries, on 23rd December. This will be felt as ‘Au revoir’ as the dance between the giants in Capricorn comes to an end. Like a backward glance toward the once fraught battle ground, we feel a pang of emotion but also notice the new growth already sprouting in the earth. This chapter is over. A new one is primed and ready to start. Saturn and Jupiter have already moved forward into Aquarius and Mars spares a backward glance to Pluto in Capricorn as he races off to meet them for a new kind of conversation. Indeed this sparky planet will need to adjust to the somewhat tighter confines of Taurus as we begin to plough temper our energy into more long-term projects.

We can wave goodbye to Mars’ journey through Aries on 7th January 2021. By then I hope you’re ready for some new vibes, because the Aquarian energy is ready to take to centre stage. Out with the old and in with the new.

Mars conjunct Neptune Transit – 13th June 2020

The transit of Mars conjunct Neptune in June 2020 offers us a dual path, both routes lead to the same destination but the person that arrives will be drastically different. This difference is dependant on how self-aware we are and how well we can retain our individuality under pressure. I will explain exactly why in a moment.

You see, when these planets are conjunct one another we see how the individual responds to collective demands. It is quite a tide to weather but if one can retain autonomy (Mars) then much can be achieved for the collective (Neptune)

This contact really forces people to reveal their personal level of consciousness. Neptune represents that which both precedes life and that which we should be aspiring to achieving after a full cycle of evolution. In this respect it will bring out the very best and the very worst in humanity. We will see people acting from a place of pure love but will also see people acting like animals, from primal instincts and lack of rationality.

Mars Conjunct Neptune – Lower manifestation

mars conjunct Neptune - the primordial sea

Neptune represents that which comes before life; the primordial sea, the collective unconscious, the womb from which we all emerge. It rules the house that precedes the 1st in the astrological wheel. We are forever enticed back towards the safety of the collective, it’s our herd mentality and the notion of safety in numbers. However, if the energy of Neptune is not raised it is chaotic, highly emotional and destructive.

Neptune, using the analogy of the womb, is the devouring mother who does not want her children to ever leave her. Through the first house we naturally begin to individuate (Aries/Mars) and we develop a sense of who we are and what we want. The lower polarity of Neptune tells the child “No, we are one, your thoughts are my thoughts, your life is my life and we will forever be united. Come back.” Under this influence individuals feel afraid to act or speak up for what they believe in for fear of being ostracised from mother, aka the safety of the herd. Alternatively, they let go of any sense of autonomy, are in no way committed to improving themselves and act in the vein of the devouring mother, this is when mayhem reigns.

Here’s the deal, embodied in the dark side of Neptune/Mars is the idea that within the herd there is immunity to individual scrutiny, and likewise everyone else is subject to overly generic accusations. This is because there is no ‘I’ and it takes an exceptionally self-aware and disciplined person to live a honest life if they are permitted exemption from personal accountability.

In this sense Mar conjunct Neptune sees people being granted the symbolic Ring of Gyges. Those shielded by the collective, but who hold to none of the higher principles of self improvement are simply exhilarated by the power it grants them.

If I am just, it will bring me no advantage but only trouble and loss, whereas if I am unjust, but can contrive to get a reputation from justice, I shall have a marvellous time.

The Ring of Gyges, – Plato, ‘The Republic

It’s crazy stuff for sure and highly hypercritical, but with no influence of air or earth there’s no grounding in this aspect, and certainly no reasoning. In it’s lowest manifestation this aspect serves to extinguish the individual will and drag people back towards disorder.

If we do not stay true to the notion of ourselves as distinct and free-thinking individuals then we will no longer respect individuality in others. We tread on dangerous ground if we only understand one another in terms of collective-stereotypes because we are essentially dehumanising each other. Our ability to move towards peace lies in our ability to recognise each others humanity.

This is a really good opportunity to reflect on your use of collective terminology, such as ‘we, us, them, they’. This in language for the sake of convenience, evolutionary-wise it serves for ease of mental processing. However, it renders you incapable of identifying with people on an individual level. Individual lives become symbolic, and I don’t need to point out how this has panned out in history!

This is the very worst of Neptune, raw emotion and unbridled chaos, but of course Neptune also stands at the end of the wheel. It is where, after a full cycle of evolution, we must return to in order to complete our journey. Now let’s get into the brighter side of this aspect.

Mars conjunct Neptune – Higher manifestation

What we need to understand is that the aim is not to go back to what was but to return to the collective with what one can offer after a cycle of learning. Once you have travelled through all of the symbolic signs and houses in the wheel, and taken on board what they have to teach, you will find yourself with something of real value to bring back. Wisdom. In terms of energy this means that only after we have worked on raising consciousness, so that we may have control over our more carnal desires, do we really have something to offer humanity as a whole.

The beauty in Mars conjunct Neptune is when the energy is used consciously we are able to bring our truths back to the collective to help others on their evolutionary path. In raising ourselves up we raise everybody up.

This is only possible if people preserve their sense of individuality and are committed to self improvement and the expression of love towards others. It sounds easy but it’s not easy to do. This is because it involves facing ones fear of stepping away from the Pisces collective in order to know themselves as an individual. They will discover that they are not the same as everybody else, that they are a single unique human flame. To be different feels unsafe, and like a baby being born from the Neptune womb into the reality of the world, it makes us feel incredibly vulnerable. This takes incredible courage.

It’s disorientating existing in a world of multiple conflicting consciousness’ and this transit will help us to build up resilience. This collective consciousness that we find ourselves a part of is both beautiful and absolutely brutal. One needs to learn to exist within, but to do so must centre themselves so that they do not get drawn back towards the metaphorical ‘devouring mother’.

Whatever sentiment we want to bring about in the world, be that harmony, freedom or justice, we first need to experience them on an individual level. We can then share that and work to bring it into the lives of others. This is the only way that we can be of service to humanity. What we truly experience on the inner plane is projected outwards. The world is just a manifestation of us.

Mars conjunct neptune - serving humanity

This is the message of the now and it’s the same message that came with the Sagittarius full moon, see below. The current energy is telling us to go inwards and to ground and develop ourselves so that we can better serve others.

There is a need to ‘know ourselves’. We must become centred and grounded through our philosophies, values and ethics. This permits us to enter into the societal maelstrom without being adversely affected by the fluctuating rhythms. We can become the eye of the storm so to speak, able to engage in learning without the threat of losing oneself.

Square the Sun in Gemini

Mars and Neptune is square the Sun in Gemini on the 13th June. So what can Gemini offer to mix?

Through Gemini, as the 3rd sign, we learnt the power of communication. We evolved from the reactive Aries archetype, through the defensive Taurus archetype and started trying to understand one another through Gemini. Through communication we can begin bridging the duality in ourselves and in our societies (the twins).

If there’s one thing that history has taught us it’s that without communication there will only ever be violence. We will never be free but will rather alternate perpetually between acts of defiance and defence.

What Could 2021 have in Store for Us?

The International Trigger – Uranus Stations Direct

11th January 2020

Astrological Implication

When an outer planet stations direct we will often experience a surge of forward motion coloured by the energy of that planet. Imagine how the engine of speed boat displaces the water before surging forward. This is often experienced as a brewing sensation, but Uranus is quick off the mark and concerned more with revelations, surprises and quick escalations. Indeed, many of us feel that this situation popped up out of nowhere and hit the ground running!

Corresponding World Events

Uranus (and Mars) are considered to be fairly exact triggers. This day specifically signified the first report by Chinese state media of the first known death, a 61-year old man who was a regular customer of the market in Wuhan. The world’s ears pricked up!

Crisis and Contraction – Saturn conjunct Pluto

12th January 2020

*This conjunction will not be exact again but I believe we will feel its presence until Saturn leaves Capricorn for good on at the end of 2020. This energy will give way to the Saturn-Uranus square which will endure into 2021.

Astrological Implication

Almost to the day that Uranus stationed direct Saturn made an exact conjunction to Pluto. There is a tremendous sense of compression with this contact. Like an erupting volcano plugged from the top, Uranus came along and tore the cork out. Suddenly we had a cosmic release of the Saturn-Pluto energy, a sense of what was to come began filtering into the consciousness of mankind globally.

When Saturn (constraint, deprivation, authoritarianism, fear) and Pluto (power, extremes, breakdown, transformation) come together, which they do approximately every 33 years, we experience intense contraction. Our survival instincts are awakened in response to catastrophic change or a feeling of victimisation. As you can imagine, this can often breed violence. An appreciation of the severity of a situation usually spurs a collective response to try and protect a way of life. However, a sense of profound duty usually births authoritarian impulses and freedoms are often taken or relinquished in response to what is seen as a greater cause.

Corresponding World Events

The exact conjunction marked the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus far we have seen the worldwide lockdown of countries in an international effort to contain the virus. The implementation of unprecedented social restriction measures and incredible pressure put on the global financial system, the consequences of which we will feel for many years to come.

Previous Saturn-Pluto Conjunctions

December 1980 – October 1984 – Iran/Iraq war, Falkland War, Soviet War in Afganistan

June 1946 – September 1948 – The Cold War. The Nuclear Arms Race. Testing of the atomic bomb in the South Pacific.

August 1913 – June 1916 – Build up to World War 1

Universal Compassion – Jupiter sextile Neptune

20th February 2020

Astrological Implications

Thank goodness for this aspect!

Jupiter is still a month away from joining Saturn and Pluto so let’s not consider its qualities (expansion, magnitude, growth, abundance) in relation to the spread of the virus just yet. The sextile to Neptune instead has a much more pleasant message of collective compassion and philanthropy. The notion that we are all in this life together brings natural empathy for others and an altruistic drive to give something back to humanity. When these two planets are in any aspect there’s the dawning realisation that through giving to others you are in fact feeding yourself on a spiritual level.

Without this aspect, I believe the strict/authoritarian measures would not have been as well adhered to come the transit of Mars in March (see below). It would have resulted in more combative reactions, with people taking instinctive action (Mars-Pluto) against the limitations placed upon them by Saturn.

Corresponding World Events

February and through into March saw some of the most altruistic and uplifting news stories of this period. 750,000 people answered the call to volunteer to support the NHS in the UK whilst large organisations and celebrities donated millions to aid in the fight against the virus. We also saw engineering organisations such as the F1 teams and Dyson join in the pressing effort to manufacture ventilators.

It’s Happening! – Mars conjunct Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn

20th March – 2nd April

Astrological Implications

Transiting Mars is fast moving and is only in aspect to another planet or angle for 2-3 days. In this instance however it contacted the succession of planets in Capricorn and so the general Mars influence would have been felt over the period of 12 days or so. As with the initial Uranus influence on 11th January, this time period may well have felt like the next push forward in string of events, or as ‘things coming to a head’. If Uranus planted the seed, Mars let grow the shoot.

Mars acts as a catalyst, it has a forthright and assertive energy and during this period people would have started to feel directly impacted the themes of the Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto stellium in Capricorn. Mars however experiences Saturn as limiting, one says move and other says no! Whilst Mars in aspect to Pluto can be quite an intense energy, the war-lord stirring the deep survival instincts of Pluto. People may well have been experiencing very raw emotions during this week, anger, frustration and fear. Jupiter serving as means of expansion in this instance and bringing in themes such as international relations and widespread generosity, but more on that below.

Corresponding World Events

It was from mid to the end of March that we began to see the majority of national lockdowns come into place across the world. Travel restrictions also became increasingly widespread, with the grounding of whole fleets of airlines. It was the 20th March exactly when Mars made a conjunction to Jupiter (generosity, pleasure, mass-socialisation) that day the government closed pubs, cafes and bars here in the UK and Australia. On the 21st the Chancellor promised £350bn in aid for British bunisnesses, “whatever it takes,” he said.

By March the 23rd the UK was in national lockdown and here in Britain we witnessed the Prime minister announce some of the most draconian restrictions on individual liberty that the UK had ever seen. By the end of March 32 out of 50 US states were in lockdown in the US. Emergency (Mars) legislation (Saturn) was rushed through parliament to grant new powers (Pluto) to tackle the spread of the virus.

Proportion and Death: Jupiter Conjunct Pluto

5th April 2020

Astrological Implication

Here Jupiter is exposing the sheer magnitude of the situation. When it crosses Pluto it serves to blow Pluto characteristics out of proportion. Think of it this way instead of upheaval, we have mass upheaval, escalated breakdown, elevated death, widespread transformation and titanic power struggles.

Jupiter is concerned with authenticity and Pluto with that which is hidden or beneath the surface. When these meet we usually experience revelation, the uncovering of the truth in situations. Jupiter being widespread is associated with international matters, bringing upheaval to more than the immediate locality.

Corresponding World Events

This unsurprisingly coincided with the peak of the global pandemic. The number of cases and deaths increasing day on day, with the highest recorded number of deaths jumping by 980 in 24 hours on April 10th in the UK. The magnitude (Jupiter) of the crisis (Pluto) was, at this point, clear for all to see.

What happened in the past when these archetypes conjoined?

When Pluto was in Sagittarius we experienced the effects of international (Jupiter/Sagittarius) terrorism (Pluto) More recently, when Jupiter travelled through Scorpio we saw the rise of the Me too movement, the revelation of the truth (Jupiter) behind a widespread misue of power (Pluto/Scorpio)

Societal Reform – Saturn enters Aquarius

7th April 2020

Astrological Implication

Saturn has moved from Capricorn, where it was comfortable and efficient in its ruling sign, to Aquarius. This is uncomfortable territory for Saturn. In summary, Aquarius is future orientated and concerned with innovation and social justice. This radical energy does not combine well with the traditional values of Saturn that seek to preserve the tried and tested systems and practices that have served us in the past.

So, this combination encourages steady reformation and the cautious establishment of a new ways of doing things. An innovative approach to upgrading systems and practices so that they better serve society. Grit, determination and hard work are necessary in order to create something for the collective benefit. Under this placement it would not be unheard of for new inventions and societal reform to take root.

This can go one of two ways because Saturn dampens the Aquarian spirit and the Aquarian drive pushes Capricorn values out of their comfort zone. On one hand this can result in limitation on freedoms and a sense of frustration at being unable to take control of one’s own future. When oppressed Aquarius reacts with revolutionary impulses and we often see sudden challenges to order, processes and authority. Alternatively, Saturn prizes security and seeks to build systems that protect values and ways of life. In Aquarius Saturn is confronted with the impulse to change and this can be experienced as threatening to its core desire to preserve that which has served to give stability. In response a structured effort to oppress expression of counter sentiments can be made.

Corresponding World Events

By this point millions of people across the globe were experiencing a state of national lockdown. Tremendous limitations had been put on personal freedoms; people only permitted to leave the house for one hour of exercise each day or to get essentials such as food and medication. The Police were granted the power to force people suspected of being infected into isolation, or to fine those who were found to be breaking social distancing instructions. We began seeing authoritarian measures being taken that many of us would not have experienced in our lifetime!

What does astrology suggest about what will happen next?

First, I want to remind you that astrology cannot determine what will take place in the future. It can be used to give insight into the archetypal themes that will be evident and to discern when climatic periods will be.

The Retrograde Season: Increasing the Chances of Long Term Success

26th April 2020 – 13th September 2020

From the end of April through to May we see all the key players turning retrograde. Events in the outside world will slow in their momentum giving people some well-deserved breathing space. The Coronavirus itself will likely take a step back from the limelight. We will experience an easing of the planetary expressions mentioned above and, dare I say it, we will experience a taste of normality again.

When all planets are direct, it’s go go go! We fall into very reactive modes of behaviour and our approach to life is often frantic. It feels like we’re ‘always on the backfoot’. Retrograde season is an opportunity to process, clarify and plan.

Organisations and governments are permitted an opportunity to reflect on what’s happened; envision a course for the future and plan a strategy. The opportunity, if used constructively, will allow us to move forward in a pro-active manner and being pre-emptive of future scenarios. This period may be quiet but it can be used to increase the likelihood of our achieving our long-term goals.

Tighten your Belts Again! – Jupiter Conjunct Pluto and Saturn

From mid-September (Reaching impact between 13th November 2020 – 21st December 2020)

That these planets come together again suggests that the themes experienced at the tail end of 2019 will endure through until 2021 (the immediate after effects up until 2023.) The big concern here is that we will experience a repeat of the mid-January to mid-April situation. I admit, there will likely be a resurgence of the same energy and the time will be fraught, but not necessarily equally so. Second contacts do not manifest in the same manner as the first… if we were paying attention that is!

If you need to refer back to:

Saturn conjunct Pluto

Jupiter conjunct Pluto

Mars triggering all Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in quick succession

The first hit has a novelty value, this impact is experienced as foreign and we often feel unprepared to manage it effectively. By the second contact (assuming it is the final contact) the energy has now been rendered recognisable. We have assimilated the information and are generally able to better manage the situation.

Will the virus escalate again?

Despite being able to clearly mark the nature of experience and time-period using astrology, we cannot determine how the exact situation will manifest. Let’s consider the broader themes of this period to help us keep an open mind.

Inflated responses to fear of change and threat to security

Constriction of freedoms

Widespread / international crisis and pressure on relations

The breakdown and consequent transformation of systems and processes

Unveiling of truth and the desire to contain it.

It’s easy to see how this could indicate another collective attempt to limit the disruption of a repeat rise in the outbreak. However, this configuration could result in the unveiling of information that puts such strain on international relations that we see a complete reformation of how large organisations, or even countries, work together. My point is, we just can’t say how the dynamic will manifest just yet. Remember, astrology doesn’t trump free-will!

The level of impact this will have will depend largely on the work done during the retrograde season. Have we learnt from our mistakes? Have we realigned our intentions? Did we use the time wisely to ensure a proactive response to the potential challenges ahead? You could consider this time to be the final exam, an opportunity to prove what we have learnt (or to feel the consequences of what we haven’t!)

What Could 2021 Have in Store for Us?

Good news, early in the new year we should see the ebbing of this earth-shattering energy. Pluto is then left relatively undisturbed in Capricorn whilst Saturn and Jupiter plough forward into Aquarius and square off with Uranus!

Might we see hard work payoff with innovative breakthroughs? Could Saturn in Aquarius indicate a time of austerity? Maybe even themes of social justice will come to the fore, but more on that in my next article….
